Cartographers of Split

Ivka KLJAJIĆ, Marina RAJAKOVIĆ, University of Zagreb, Faculty of Geodesy

The biographic lexicon Croatian Cartographers was published after many years of collecting material. This is the first publication in the Croatian scientific history which presents Croatian cartographers with their biographical, bibliographical and cartographic data in one place according to a unique lexicographic form. Until now, there has not been a book in Croatia containing information about Croatian cartographers, clearly arranged alphabetically. The main characteristics of this publication are data comprehensiveness and fact stating, informativeness and clearness, as well as the wide coverage of authors of all branches and fields of scientific work in which cartography appears. About two thousand people were encompassed in the lexicon. Croatian cartographers who can be considered as cartographers of Split were singled out in this paper. Some of them were born in Split, some attended school and/or were engaged in cartography, and some still live and work in Split.
