The 9th issue of the journal will be published in June, 2008.

The eighth issue of the journal Cartography and Geoinformation has been published!

Briefly about the contents of this issue. As announced in the last issue, there is the National Report about cartography in Croatia for the period 2003-2007. The Report was presented at the 14th General Assembly of the ICA held in Moscow in summer 2007.

In our effort for the journal to be accessible to a wider range of readers, the second part features representations of new master and doctoral theses, publications, software, conferences and exhibitions, there is an article about the map collection of the Historical Archive of Sarajevo, etc. We finish this issue with some sad news. Aleksandar Tonsetic, a vice president of the Croatian Cartographic Society and a member of the Editorial Board of this journal, passed aaway. We thank him for everything he did for Croatian cartography.

The Kartografija i Geoinformacije journal has been cited in the Bibliographia Cartographica database (http://bc.staatsbibliothek-berlin.de). It has recently also been cited in the Scopus (http://www.scopus.com) and the DOAJ - Directory of Open Access Journals database (http://www.doaj.org). Furthermore, a contract was signed with the EBSCO Publishing, Inc., and we expect this is going to contribute to finding new readers.

The special issue of the journal Cartography and Geoinformation has been published!

This special issue is dedicated to Professor emeritus Nedjeljko Francula, a doyen of Croatian cartography.

The scientific-professional staff of the Faculty of Geodesy, all masters and doctors of science N. Francula was a mentor to, and all other scientists N. Francula collaborated with were asked for participation.

Many of them answered, and their contributions are published. After Prof. Francula's biography and a list of his activities and published papers, there are 15 scientific and professional papers written by 26 authors. Most of the authors come from the Faculty of Geodesy of the University of Zagreb, but some of them are from other Croatian high education institutions or abroad, from Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Germany.

Considering the range of themes is so large, everyone is going to find something for himself or herself.

The fourth issue of the journal Cartography and Geoinformation has been published!

Briefly about the contents of this issue. Firstly we present a few scientific and professional papers. The first four of them refer to the latest trends in cartography and geoinformatics. They deal with cartography of the 21st century, cartography and geoinformatics in the neighbouring Slovenia and the new concept of the atlas information system of Austria. Two articles dedicated to the Croatian cartography heritage follow. The first one is about the Kornati archipelago, and the second one about the Ottoman cartography of the eastern Adriatic coast.

We bring a presentation of the 22nd International Cartographic Conference, which was held this summer in A Coruna, Spain, and the presentation of the 21st International Conference on the History of Cartography, which was also held this summer in Budapest. Along with selected photos taken at these conferences, which we publish in this issue on number of pages, we wish to give you at least a bit of the atmosphere we brought home from those journeys.

The novely of this issue is the international membership of the Editorial Board, in which we were joined by colleagues from Austria and Slovenia.

The third issue of the journal Cartography and Geoinformation has been published!

At the beginning, there are several scientific and professional papers. The first four of them are related to the most modern trends in cartography and geoinformatics. They deal with multimedia cartographic information systems, modelling Croatian cadastral database, spatial data infrastructure in Croatia, and the application of geoinformatics in the field of pedology in wine-growing. The fifth article is about digitisation of old maps, linking classical cartography and librarianship with contemporary geoinformatic approach. The last article in this group is about Johann Christoph Müller, and contributes to better understanding of Croatian and European cartographic heritage.

There is also a representation of the 12th General Assembly of the International Cartographic Association (ICA) and the 21st International Cartographic Conference, both held last summer in Durban, South Africa. Showing numerous photographs taken in Africa and published in this issue on several pages, we wanted you to feel at least a part of African atmosphere we took home from another continent.

The second issue of the journal Cartography and Geoinformation has been published!

The first and the most comprehensive paper is the national report on cartography in Croatia for the 1999-2003 period, which was produced for the 12th General Assembly of the International Cartographic Association (ICA), which was held in the frame of the 21st International Cartographic Conference this summer in Durban, South Africa. We are preparing a more comprehensive presentation of the conference for the next issue.

Following the report are several scientific and professional papers: about Croatian military cartography, about Croatian cartographic data model, about the national spatial data infrastructure and historical one - about Vinko Paletin from Korčula.

In order for our magazine to be accessible to a broader circle of readers, there are book, software, project, society, conference, map exhibition and other reviews. In the Anniversaries column we congratulate Prof. Dr. Nedjeljko Frančula and Prof. Dr. Drago Novak, the two famous persons belonging to Croatian cartography. Because of the importance of professional terminology, this issue also contains a mini-dictionary of map projections. The last, but not the least, there is an instructive page in place of the fun page from the first issue.

The first issue of the journal Cartography and Geoinformation has been published!

A few brief words about the contents. The first paper is a review in which the authors give their vision of the future of cartography. The next is a group of five papers which were presented at the 20th International Cartographic Conference in Beijing in 2001, and which were expanded for this purpose. The Beijing conference is this issue's main theme, and besides the scientific supplements, the very successful participation of Croatia is illustrated by the presentations of the International Map Exhibition, the International Children's Drawings Exhibition, and I would especially stress, the presentation of the awarded photomap which was also used for this issue's cover.

Following is a series of presentations at other conferences, new Ph.D. disertations and masters of sciences' theses, cartography textbooks, new books etc.

The basic characteristic of the journal is the publishing of all texts in Croatian and English in order to present ourselves better not only to the national, but also to the international cartographic society.
