Abstract

To efficiently deal with societal, environmental and economic challenges in our increasingly complex world, current and accurate information is the most important aspect. The key that enables such information access in the first place is standardisation. It is the definition of common interfaces and terminology between heterogeneous systems that enable interoperability.

Any standards organization existing and operating in isolation lacks relevance and their standards will not be broadly implemented.

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an organisation that encourages strong collaboration with other standards bodies. Its member driven process helps to take the needs of different domains into account.

The presentation will give a brief overview of the OGC and will focus on how organisations can support and contribute to the standardisation process as well as how communities of practice can benefit from OGC's Interoperability Program.

Keywords: Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), geospatial infomation, standardisation
