Isometric latitude

An auxillary latitude used in the conformal mapping of the spheroid on a sphere. By transforming geographic latitude on the spheroid into isometric latitudes on a sphere, a conformal map projection may be developed (e.g., Mercator), using spherical formulas, for the plotting of geographic data.
